What if a painting could hold a memory?

For Utah-based modern impressionist Mariah Rupp, art is about far more than creating something beautiful. It’s about preserving the stories, emotions, and objects that shape our lives.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Mariah worked as a product designer and illustrator, where she developed a strong foundation in visual storytelling. Today, that same storytelling approach guides her with every piece she creates.

She takes time to understand what matters most to the people she works with from family china passed down through generations, the flowers from a wedding day, the patterns tied to childhood memories, or the objects that quietly hold meaning.

Using color theory, pattern, and intuition, she transforms those stories into contemporary paintings that feel both personal and timeless.

One of the most recognizable elements in her work is pink.

Ironically, it was a color she disliked as a child.

Now, pink has become central to her practice. Pink is a symbol of femininity, softness, emotion, and connection. Through layered brushwork and thoughtful compositions, she uses it to create paintings that invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and feel.
